Recycled Blue Whale

This creative recycling craft helps your kid to learn about the largest animal on Earth while exploring textures, shapes and movement.

You’ll Need:

  • 1 empty plastic bottle
  • Blue tissue paper
  • Gray or blue craft foam (for fins and tail)
  • Googly eyes
  • Blue pipe cleaners (for water spout)
  • Scissors
  • Glue or tape

Let’s Make it:

  1. Clean and dry your plastic bottle. Fill it with crumpled blue tissue paper to create the whale’s body color.
  2. Cut out two side fins, a dorsal fin and a large tail from craft foam. Attach them to the bottle using glue or tape.
  3. Add a googly eye and draw or cut out a smiling mouth. Then make a tiny hole on top of the bottle and insert the pipe cleaners to form a playful water spout.

Did You Know?

  • Blue whales are the largest animals ever known to exist — even bigger than dinosaurs.
  • A blue whale’s heart is as big as a small car.
  • They breastfeed their young and a baby can drink up to 200 liters of milk per day, gaining about 90 kilograms daily.
  • Blue whales are called “gentle giants” because even though they’re the largest animals on Earth, they are not dangerous — they eat only tiny krill and move calmly through the ocean.
  • They help keep the ocean healthy because their waste (poop) is full of nutrients that feed tiny plants called phytoplankton. These plants produce oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide, which helps the planet breathe and stay balanced.

Why We Love It:

  • Encourages kids to learn about ocean life through hands-on creativity.
  • Promotes environmental awareness by reusing materials in a fun, meaningful way.
  • Sparks imagination as little ones create stories about their whales swimming in the deep blue sea.
  • Helps children connect to nature and understand the importance of protecting marine animals.
  • Low-mess and easy to set up using everyday household items.
  • Inspires confidence and pride — kids love showing off their finished ocean friend!
