What’s Her Feeling?

A simple recycled craft that turns learning about emotions into a playful game of choosing, recognizing and talking about feelings.

You’ll Need:

  • A piece of cardboard or thick white paper
  • An empty 500 ml plastic bottle (we used a Coca-Cola bottle)
  • 8 bottle caps
  • White paint and a black marker
  • Scissors and strong glue

Let’s Make it:

  1. Draw and colour a little girl on the cardboard, leaving her face empty. Carefully cut the neck from the plastic bottle, just below the threaded part where the cap screws on – this step is for adults only.
  2. Glue the bottle neck onto the girl’s face and allow it to dry securely. Paint the collected bottle caps white and let them dry completely.
  3. Draw a different facial expression on each cap—happy, sad, angry, scared, worried, surprised and more. Let your little one choose a feeling, screw that face onto the girl and talk about the emotion together.

Why We Love It:

  • Makes emotions visual and easy for little ones to explore.
  • Encourages little ones to think about why someone might feel a certain way.
  • Makes talking about feelings feel natural and playful.
  • Simple to make using materials we already have at home.
