Where Does It Go?

Match each body part to the right place and discover how amazing your body is.

You’ll Need:

  • Cardboard
  • Smooth stones or rocks
  • Marker to draw a simple body outline
  • Paint pens

Let’s Make it:

  1. Find smooth pebbles in different shapes and sizes. Choose stones that roughly match the shape of the body parts or organs you want to include (using different-shaped pebbles will help your kid learn where each organ is positioned in the body)
  2. Using a black permanent marker, draw one organ on each pebble. You can include the brain, trachea, lungs, heart, stomach, liver, kidneys, intestines or any others you’d like your child to learn.
  3. Colour each organ with paint pens or permanent markers to make the body parts easy to identify and more engaging for your little learner.
  4. On a piece of cardboard, draw a simple outline of a person’s body. Place each pebble where it belongs and trace around it to create an outline for every stone.
  5. Colour the traced shapes to match the pebbles. This gives children an extra visual clue while they’re learning where each body part belongs.
  6. Mix up the pebbles and invite your kid to match each one to the correct spot on the body. As they play, talk about the name of each body part and what it does to make learning even more meaningful.

Did You Know?

Brain

  • Your brain is the boss of your body—it helps you think, learn, remember, and move.
  • Even while you’re sleeping, your brain never takes a nap!
  • Your brain sends millions of tiny messages around your body every single day.

Trachea (Windpipe)

  • Your trachea is like a special air tunnel that carries air to your lungs.
  • Tiny hairs inside your trachea help trap dust and germs before they reach your lungs.
  • Every breath you take travels through your trachea first!

Lungs

  • Your lungs fill up like balloons every time you breathe in.
  • You take around 20,000 breaths every day without even thinking about it!
  • Your lungs give your body the oxygen it needs to run, jump, and play.

Heart

  • Your heart is a powerful muscle about the size of your fist.
  • It beats about 100,000 times every day!
  • Your heart pumps blood all around your body to deliver oxygen and nutrients.

Stomach

  • Your stomach mixes food into a mushy soup before sending it to the intestines.
  • Special stomach juices help break down the food you eat.
  • It can stretch when you enjoy a big meal, then shrink back again!

Liver

  • Your liver is the largest organ inside your body.
  • It helps clean your blood and stores energy from the food you eat.
  • Your liver works hard every day to keep your body healthy.

Kidneys

  • Your kidneys are shaped like beans.
  • They clean your blood and help your body get rid of waste by making urine.
  • Even though they’re small, your kidneys work all day and all night!

Intestines

  • If you stretched out your intestines, they’d be about as long as a school bus!
  • Your intestines take all the good nutrients from your food to help your body grow.
  • They work together to make sure your body gets the energy it needs every day.
