Mama & Cub Lions

A simple, hands-on activity that lets little ones create their own jungle friends.

You’ll Need:

  • 2 toilet paper rolls
  • Yellow paint
  • Orange or brown felt for the lion’s mane
  • Googly eyes
  • Glue
  • Marker pen

Let’s Make it:

  1. Start by cutting one roll shorter for the cub, then paint both tubes yellow to bring your lion bodies to life.
  2. Cut out a circle from the felt, then trim the edges to create a fuller mane for the mama lion and a softer, wavy shape for the cub. On both pieces, cut a smaller circle in the center for the face.
  3. Add little ears, googly eyes, draw a simple lion expression and finish with tiny paws to bring them to life.

Did You Know?

  • Lions are one big family – they live together in groups called prides, where everyone looks after one another.
  • Lions love their naps. They can sleep and rest for up to 20 hours a day to get ready for their next adventure.
  • A daddy lion’s fluffy mane is extra special, it helps protect him and makes him look big and strong.
  • Lions share their home with many amazing animals, including elephants, zebras, giraffes and rhinos on the African savannah.
  • Roaaar! Can you hear that? A lion’s mighty roar can travel up to 8 kilometres (5 miles) away!

Why We Love It:

  • Encourages creativity and imagination through simple crafting.
  • Opens the door to learning about animals and their habitats.
  • Encourages thoughtful habits like reusing and creating instead of wasting.
