My Amazing Brain

A colourful, hands-on way to introduce your little learner to the different parts of the brain and the amazing jobs they do.

You’ll Need:

  • Play-Doh in different colours
  • A brain picture or diagram for reference
  • A flat surface or tray

Let’s Make it:

  1. Choose a different Play-Doh colour for each section of the brain. Roll each colour into several long, thin strings.
  2. Twist and twirl each string into a bumpy little lump, creating the squiggly texture of the brain.
  3. Arrange the coloured sections together following your brain picture and as you build, name each lobe and explain its job in simple toddler-friendly words.

Did you know?

  • Your brain is soft and squishy – that’s why your strong skull is there to help keep it safe.
  • But don’t let its softness fool you, your brain is also super fast. Messages can race between your brain and body faster than a car.
  • Learning helps your brain grow. Every new word, puzzle or skill helps build stronger brain connections.
  • Practice makes connections stronger – the more you practise something, the easier it becomes to remember how to do it.
  • It even helps you make sense of what you see. Your eyes send information to your brain, which helps you understand the world around you.
  • Sleep helps your brain learn. While you snooze, your brain helps sort and store some of the things you learned that day.

Why We Love It:

  • Turns a complicated body lesson into something toddlers can see, touch and understand.
  • Rolling, twisting and shaping Play-Doh strengthens little hands and fine motor skills.
  • Introduces body-part vocabulary while encouraging questions and curiosity.
