Squish the Feeling

A hands-on emotions activity that helps little ones explore feelings through play, faces and movement.

You’ll Need:

  • Ziploc bags
  • Black permanent marker
  • White glue
  • Food colouring
  • Ruler

Let’s Make it:

  1. Draw one emotion on one side of the Ziploc bag. Flip it over and using the same lines as your first drawing, turn them into a different emotion on the other side.
  2. Mix white glue with a few drops of food colouring, then pour it into the bag, filling no more than one-third of the bag. This leaves enough space for the glue to move aside and reveal the second emotion fully. Seal the bag tightly.
  3. Lay the bag flat with the more basic emotion showing. Use a ruler to gently push the glue to one end. As the glue moves away, the details drawn on the other side complete the first face, revealing a whole new emotion.

Why We Love It:

  • Creates a fun little surprise as one emotion reveals another.
  • Encourages natural conversations about feelings.
  • Turns an abstract idea like emotions into something children can see, touch and explore.
  • Easy to make with simple materials you may already have at home.
