Colorful Seahorse Sorting

Make learning colors magical with this adorable seahorse sorting activity — a bright, hands-on way for little ones to match and name and their favorite shades.

You’ll Need:

  • Felt or colored paper for seahorses
  • Cardboard + felt (or any sturdy material) for the crayons (I reused pieces from an older activity that didn’t survive playtime)
  • Scissors
  • Glue or Velcro dots
  • A sturdy board or cardstock base

Let’s Make it:

  1. Cut out seahorses from different colors of felt or paper (or choose any shape your child loves — stars, cars, hearts).
  2. Make the color crayons by cutting out crayon shapes from cardboard, then covering the top layer with felt or another strong material.
  3. Glue the seahorses onto your board. Then add Velcro next to each seahorse and to the back of each crayon so your little one can match the colors, remove them and match again for endless learning fun.

Why We Love It:

  • Easy to customize with your child’s favorite shapes (Chloe loves seahorses) making learning feel personal and fun.
  • Encourages hands-on, self-directed learning — little ones explore colors and matching at their own pace.
  • romotes concentration and independence, allowing kids to repeat the activity as many times as they need.
  • Offers clear visual order — each seahorse has one color and one matching crayon — helping toddlers understand sorting with simplicity and clarity.
