Harvest Basket with Mini Garlic Pumpkin

Turn a simple garlic bulb into a cute little pumpkin and give it a cozy handmade basket — a sweet autumn craft to celebrate the harvest season.

You’ll Need:

  • 1 paper cup
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Pipe cleaner (for the handle)
  • Glue
  • 1 head of garlic
  • Orange paint
  • 1 small stick (for the pumpkin stem)
  • Shredded paper or straws

Let’s Make it:

  1. Take one paper cup and cut it in half across the middle so you have a shorter piece, about half the original height. This shorter piece will form the basket.
  2. Cover the outside of the cup by gluing popsicle sticks all around it, side by side, until the whole roll is hidden and looks like a little wooden basket. Once the sides are covered, take a pipe cleaner to make the handle.
  3. Bend it into an arch and glue each end to the inside top edge of the basket, one on each side. Hold it in place until it sticks firmly.
  4. To make a Mini Pumpkin take one head of garlic and color it orange to resemble a pumpkin. For the stem, insert a small stick into the top of the garlic. Once dry, fill the basket with shredded paper or straws to look like hay. Then place your mini pumpkin on top for a festive harvest look.

Why We Love It:

  • Strengthens fine motor skills through folding, gluing, and arranging each paper piece.
  • Encourages focus, sequencing and patience while also sparks creativity.
  • Makes a beautiful handmade decoration that brings warmth to your Thanksgiving table.
  • A calming, screen-free craft that lets your kid slow down and enjoy the cozy time with mom and dad.
