Yarn Pumpkin Pie

Nothing says Thanksgiving like a cozy slice of pumpkin pie. This hands-on craft wraps fine-motor fun into every “slice” and lets your little ones whip up their own pretend dessert to share with the family.

You’ll Need:

  • Orange yarn
  • Brown foam paper (for the crust)
  • Cardboard or thick carton (for the base)
  • Cotton balls (for the whipped cream)
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Let’s Make it:

  1. Cut the carton into a large circle for the pie base, then divide it into equal “slices”.
  2. Wrap orange yarn around each slice until it’s fully covered — this becomes your pumpkin pie filling.
  3. Cut strips of brown foam paper with a scalloped edge and glue them along the top of each slice for the pie crust.
  4. Glue a cotton ball on top of each slice for a dollop of “whipped cream”.

Why We Love It:

  • Encourages pretend play and creativity.
  • Turns simple materials into a festive Thanksgiving decoration.
  • Great for practicing shape recognition and early fractions through slicing and assembling the pie.
