Fizzy Color Reactions

This activity transforms simple science into a magical rainbow show—perfect for curious little minds who love wonder and surprises.

You’ll Need:

  • Baking soda (enough to cover a tray or dish)
  • Vinegar (poured into small bowls or cups)
  • Food coloring (different colors for more fun)
  • Droppers, spoons, or pipettes
  • A tray

Let’s Make It:

  1. Spread baking soda evenly in a tray.
  2. In each bowl of vinegar, stir in a few drops of food coloring—make every bowl a different color.
  3. Use droppers or spoons to slowly add the colored vinegar onto the baking soda.
  4. The mixture will bubble and fizz as the colors spread and mix together!

What’s Happening Here?

When vinegar (an acid) mixes with baking soda (a base), they create lots of tiny bubbles called carbon dioxide gas. As this gas tries to escape, it bursts out as fizzy foam—like a little explosion of fun! The colors don’t change the reaction, they just turn the foam into a rainbow.

Why We Love It:

  • A hands-on way to introduce kids to basic chemistry.
  • Boosts creativity and curiosity as little ones mix colors and watch new shades appear.
  • Easy setup and endless fun—kids love repeating it again and again!
