Shape Sorting Floor Game

This hands-on activity is the perfect mix of movement, focus and learning—all while building shape recognition and coordination.

You’ll Need:

  • Colored paper or foam sheets
  • Scissors
  • Masking tape

Let’s Make it:

  1. Use masking tape to outline large shapes on the floor—a circle, square, and triangle.
  2. Cut matching smaller shapes from colored paper (try using bright, bold colors!).
  3. Spread the shapes out and invite your little one to sort them into the correct taped outlines.

Why We Love It:

  • Builds early math skills through shape and color recognition.
  • Encourages movement and hands-on learning.
  • Strengthens focus, coordination and problem-solving.

Creative Tips:

  • Turn it into a scavenger hunt—hide the shapes around the room for your child to find and sort.
  • Add a learning twist: ask your little one to count how many of each shape they sorted at the end!
  • Use the same idea for size sorting—big, medium, and small versions of each shape.
