Paper Plate Number Matching

This playful puzzle is a hands-on way to learn counting, number recognition and problem-solving.

You’ll Need:

  • Paper plates (one for each number)
  • Markers or crayons
  • Black marker for outlining
  • Scissors

Let’s Make it:

  1. On one half of each paper plate, draw and color a big number (1–5).
  2. On the other half, draw a happy little girl holding the same number of balloons as the number on the plate.
  3. Cut each plate in half with a different zigzag or wavy line so every plate has its own unique puzzle shape. Mix the pieces and let your little one find and match the correct halves.

Why We Love It:

  • Builds number recognition and counting skills.
  • Strengthens problem-solving and matching abilities.
  • Easy to adapt for higher numbers or different shapes.

Creative Tips:

  • Color-code numbers and dots for beginners, then remove the color clues as they improve.
  • Use stickers or pom-poms instead of balloons for a tactile twist.
  • Try numbers up to 10 for an extra challenge.
  • Flip the plates over and write simple equations on the back for older kids to solve and match!
