Recycled Bottle Stingray

This stingray craft is a creative way for kids to explore sea life while learning how these amazing creatures move through saltwater with their wide, wavy wings.

You’ll Need:

  • 1 empty plastic water bottle (label removed)
  • Blue construction paper
  • White paint or white marker (for spots)
  • Large googly eyes
  • Scissors
  • Glue (strong craft glue)
  • Tape

Let’s Make it:

  1. Cut two large fin shapes from blue paper, curving them slightly to look like wings. Then cut a long, thin triangle again from blue paper for the tail.
  2. Add tiny white spots with paint or a marker to give your stingray its beautiful ocean pattern. Let them dry.
  3. Tape or glue the fins to the sides of the bottle, then attach the tail to the back. Glue the googly eyes near the bottle cap.

Did You Know?

  • Some stingrays love to hide on the sandy ocean floor, peeking out with just their eyes! When they rest, they wiggle sand over their backs to stay safe and hidden.
  • Their long tails can sense tiny movements in the water, helping them find food even when it’s dark or murky.
  • Stingrays don’t have bones — their bodies are flat, soft, bendy, and made of cartilage.
  • Their eyes sit on top of their heads while their mouths are underneath — so they can watch above while eating below.
  • Stingrays are peaceful ocean animals and only use their stingers to protect themselves when they feel scared.

Why We Love It:

  • Inspires pretend play.
  • Helps kids learn about ocean animals through play and discovery.
  • It’s a creative way to reuse and recycle at home.
