Floating Yarn Jellyfish

These adorable jellyfish look like they’re floating straight out of the deep waters. It’s calm, creative and full of ocean wonder activity.

You’ll Need:

  • Two paper plates
  • Yarn in any colors you have — blue, white, black or mixed
  • Googly eyes
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • Blue or purple paint and brush
  • Glue

Let’s Make it:

  1. Paint both paper plates in ocean-inspired colors and let them dry.
  2. Cut both plates in half using a wavy line instead of a straight one — this gives each jellyfish a soft, flowing edge that looks just like the rippling body of a real jellyfish. One half will be your large jellyfish and for the baby jellyfish, cut the second plate a little deeper to make it smaller.
  3. Punch holes along the wavy edge of your paper plate, spacing them about an inch apart.
  4. Cut long pieces of yarn and fold each one in half. Push the folded end of the yarn through a hole from the front of the plate, then pull the loose ends through the loop to make a neat knot that holds it in place. Repeat for every hole until your jellyfish has a full set of dangling tentacles.
  5. Glue on googly eyes and draw happy smiles — your jellyfish is ready.
