Thanksgiving Sensory Bins

It’s calm, creative and oh-so-satisfying, bringing cozy Thanksgiving playtime right to your little one’s hands.

You’ll Need:

  • Dry chickpeas, rice, and couscous
  • Tempera paint in fall shades (orange, red, brown)
  • Zip bags or containers for coloring
  • A sensory bin or tray
  • Small scoops, cups, and spoons
  • Optional: mini pumpkins or fall-themed toys

Let’s Make it:

  1. Place the chickpeas, rice and couscous into separate zip bags. Add the tempera paint and a small splash of water to each, seal them up and let your little one shake, squish and mix until the color spreads evenly.
  2. Spread everything out on a tray to dry completely. Once ready, pour the colorful grains into different sections of a sensory bin or mix them together for a vibrant, fall-themed sensory experience.
  3. Add scoops, cups and a few seasonal toys for open-ended play.

Why We Love It:

  • Promotes focus, calm and independent play.
  • Invites pretend play and creativity.
  • Builds fine motor skills through scooping, pouring and sorting.
  • Inspires sensory language — little ones learn to describe textures like “soft”, “grainy” or “bumpy”.
