Winter Animal Paper Chains

Meet our chilly friends — a penguin, polar bear, seal and reindeer — fun to make and full of personality.

You’ll Need:

  • Construction paper and foam paper (white, black, brown, grey, yellow and red)
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick or tape
  • Black marker
  • Pencil

Let’s Make them:

  1. Cut strips of construction paper about 1 inch wide. Loop the first strip into a circle and glue or tape the ends together. Keep looping and attaching strips to form a chain of 3–5 links. Use white paper for the polar bear and seal, black for the penguin, and brown for the reindeer.
  2. Cut out a circle for each animal’s face (use an oval shape for the reindeer). Add the features using markers and a light blue pencil for the shading.
  3. Cut small shapes to match each animal:
o Polar Bear: White paws with black paw prints.
    o Penguin: Yellow webbed feet.
o Seal: White flippers with fin details.
    o Reindeer: Brown hooves.
  4. Glue each face to the top link of the paper chain and the feet to the bottom. Let them dry.

Why We Love It:

  • Encourages creativity and storytelling as kids bring each winter animal to life.
  • Turns simple materials into adorable, hands-on decorations for the season.
  • A perfect craft for family time — easy enough for little hands and fun for everyone.
