Frozen Sun Catcher

A simple winter craft that turns nature finds into a sparkling icy decoration.

You’ll Need:

  • A shallow plate or bowl
  • Water
  • Orange slices, cranberries, pine needles (or any nature treasures)
  • String or ribbon

Let’s Make it:

  1. Arrange your orange slices, cranberries and greenery in the plate, letting your little one take the lead.
  2. Pour water over the arrangement and gently place a loop of string into the water (so it freezes in place for hanging).
  3. Leave it outside overnight (or in the freezer) until fully frozen, then pop it out and hang it on a tree to catch the winter light.

Why We Love It:

  • Brings nature and creativity together in the simplest way.
  • Creates a beautiful bonding moment as you build something together.
  • Teaches little ones about freezing and simple winter science in a hands-on way.

Creative Tips:

  • Try adding cinnamon sticks or star anise for a lovely natural scent.
  • Use cookie cutters for fun shapes instead of a plate.
  • Use muffin tins for smaller, individual sun catchers.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring for a gentle tint in the ice.
