Pom-Pom Counting Cards

These adorable pom-pom counting cards are playful way for your little one to explore numbers, practice counting and build one-to-one correspondence—all through fun, touchable play.

You’ll Need:

  • Cardboard squares or thick cardstock
  • Colored markers
  • Small craft pom-poms in various colors
  • Scissors

Let’s Make it:

  1. Cut your cardstock or cardboard into small square cards.
  2. On each card, draw simple pictures that match the number—like one sun for number 1, two clouds for number 2, three bees for number 3, four snails for number 4, and five flowers for number 5.
  3. Cut a small hole in the center of each object—just big enough to keep the pom-pom in place when your child place it on the object.

Why We Love It:

  • Combines art and early math learning in one activity.
  • Encourages number recognition and counting in a hands-on, playful way.
  • Easy to customize with different themes (e.g., animals, fruits, vehicles).

Creative Tips:

  • Use themes your child loves—animals, fruits, or vehicles or use seasonal themes like snowflakes in winter, leaves in fall, etc.
  • Extend the fun—make cards up to number 10!
  • Add a little story: “The bees are bringing pollen to the flowers—can you help them find where to go?”
