3D Ice Cream Cone

Let’s make yummie paper ice cream cones—colorful, creative and totally mess-free.

You’ll Need:

  • Brown paper or cardstock (for the cone)
  • Colored paper (for the scoops)
  • Marker or pen
  • Scissors and glue
  • Straw or rolled paper (for the wafer stick)

Let’s Make it:

  1. Start with a square piece of brown paper and hold it so one corner points toward you, like a diamond. Fold the two side corners toward the center to form a cone shape, then add a line of glue along the overlap and press to seal it in place.
  2. Cut across the top of your folded cone to make a straight, even edge. This gives your cone a neat shape when you glue it down later.
  3. With a dark marker draw crisscross lines all over the brown paper to create a waffle texture.
  4. Glue the half-cone shape onto your background paper with the flat side facing down. Press it down firmly so it sticks well.
  5. Cut out three circles of each color—each about half the width of the cone’s top. Fold each circle gently in half and glue the halves together (three pieces per color) to create a 3D scoop. Repeat for every color.
  6. Glue your colorful scoops just above the cone, stacking them to make a tall, delicious ice cream.
  7. For the final touch, glue a straw or rolled strip of paper to one side—it looks just like a wafer stick tucked into your treat.

Why We Love It:

  • Promotes imagination and storytelling—perfect for pretend play and role-playing an ice cream shop.
  • Great for playdates as little munchkins mix colors, pick “flavors” and create their own sweet designs together.
  • Easy to set up, budget-friendly and made with materials you already have at home.
