Chia Seed Slime

Looking for a fun and taste-safe sensory play idea for your little ones? Try this soft, squishy and totally edible slime.

You’ll Need:

  • 1/4 cup chia seeds
  • 2 cups water
  • Cornstarch (start with 1 cup)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • A bowl and spoon
  • Container with a lid for storage

Let’s Make it:

  1. Pour the chia seeds and water into a bowl and stir to combine.
  2. Add a few drops of food coloring.
  3. Let the mixture sit for at least 20 minutes but if you want a thicker slime, refrigerate it for a few hours or overnight.
  4. Gradually add cornstarch to the soaked chia seeds. Start with 1 cup and mix well—keep adding until it’s as slimy or doughy as you like.
  5. Keep the slime in a sealed container in the fridge. To bring it back to life, add a little water and stir before the next play session.

Why We Love It:

  • Calming, squishy texture that toddlers and preschoolers love.
  • A natural, non-toxic way to enjoy messy play and fine motor fun.
  • Made with simple kitchen ingredients and budget-friendly.
