Festive Salt Dough Ornaments

Turn simple pantry ingredients into magical Christmas ornaments your little one will love making.

You’ll Need:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1½ cups warm water
  • Mixing bowl
  • Rolling pin
  • Christmas cookie cutters
  • Straw (to poke hanging holes)
  • Acrylic paint + brushes
  • Ribbon or twine

Let’s Make it:

  1. Pour the flour, salt and warm water into a mixing bowl. Let your little one help stir! Knead together until the dough feels firm, smooth and ready to roll.
  2. Roll out the dough until it’s about 6–8 mm thick, then press in your favourite cookie-cutter shapes — stockings, trees, snowflakes, gingerbread, anything your little one loves. Use a straw to poke a tiny hole at the top so the ornament can hang.
  3. Bake at 300°F until the ornaments are fully dry, then let them cool completely before bringing out the paints and turning decorating time into a cozy holiday moment.

Why We Love It:

  • Teaches patience in a gentle way, as little ones wait for their ornaments to bake, cool, and be ready for decorating.
  • Made with everyday ingredients and simple to make.
  • Great activity for slowing down and sharing a sweet moments together.
  • Perfect for gifting to grandparents, teachers or anyone you love.
