Shape Matching Puzzles

Turn simple cardboard into colourful puzzles and watch little minds discover the magic of shapes.

You’ll Need:

  • Cardboard or thick paper
  • Markers or paint (red, yellow, blue, green)
  • Ruler and pencil
  • Scissors

Let’s Make It:

  1. On a piece of cardboard, draw a large circle and color it in with a bright, bold shade.
  2. Use a ruler to draw a cross through the circle, splitting it into four equal pieces. Cut carefully along the lines.
  3. Repeat it with a square, rectangle, and triangle to create a full puzzle set.
  4. Mix up the pieces and invite your little one to put them back together to complete each shape.

Why We Love It:

  • Encourages shape and color recognition.
  • Boosts visual-spatial reasoning and attention to detail.
  • Builds fine motor skills through careful placement.

Creative Tips:

  • Add more shapes or patterns as your child progresses.
  • Try stripes, polka dots, or zigzags on the pieces to make the puzzles extra eye-catching.
  • Cut some shapes into just two halves for beginners, and more pieces (like 6–8) for an extra challenge.
  • As your child completes each shape, turn it into a quick story (e.g., “The circle becomes the sun!”) to spark imagination.
