Balloon Scarecrow Buddies

Easy to make and fun to squish, these silly scarecrows are the perfect fall craft that also doubles as a sensory activity.

You’ll Need:

  • Balloons (in fall colors like orange, yellow, red or green)
  • Cornstarch or flour
  • Funnel
  • Yarn (for hair)
  • Black marker (for faces)
  • Scissors

Let’s Make them:

  1. Use a funnel to fill a balloon with cornstarch until it feels soft and squeezable. Tie the end securely.
  2. Draw a friendly scarecrow face with a black marker—big smiles, winks or even a goofy grin.
  3. Cut yarn into small strands, tie them around the top of the balloon for hair, then style it or give your scarecrow a little “haircut.” Once they’re ready, dive each one a name.

Why We Love It:

  • Encourages imagination and storytelling through play.
  • Perfect for cozy fall afternoons and family craft time.
  • Doubles as a squishy sensory toy.
  • Each scarecrow has its own personality and style.
