The Art of a Storm

Even the stormiest days can spark a little creativity—sometimes the best art comes from a gray sky.

You’ll Need:

  • White paper or cardstock
  • Gray paint (or mix white + black)
  • Paintbrush
  • Yellow paper (for lightning)
  • Blue paper (for raindrops)
  • Scissors and glue

Let’s Make it:

  1. Use gray paint to swirl and blend big storm clouds across your paper, then let it dry.
  2. While you wait, cut out raindrops from blue paper and lightning bolts from yellow paper.
  3. Once dry, glue the raindrops and lightning over your painted clouds to complete your stormy masterpiece.

Why We Love It:

  • Encourages curiosity about nature and opens up comforting conversations about storms, thunder and rain.
  • A calming activity that sparks imagination.
  • Easy to set up with materials found at home.

Creative tips:

  • Try making two versions—one lighter storm, one darker—to compare different weather moods or create a full weather series with rainbows and sunshine.
  • Try finger-painting the clouds to give them a soft, stormy texture.
