Magic Paper Towel Art

Watch your drawings come to life with this fun water-reveal activity. It’s quick, magical and perfect for a rainy day surprise.

You’ll Need:

  • Paper towels
  • Washable markers
  • Plate or shallow dish
  • Water

Let’s Make it:

  1. Fold a paper towel in half. On the top layer, draw an outline picture (like a rainbow, clouds or shapes) using a black marker.
  2. On the bottom sheet, you’ll see faint traces of your outline—use them as a guide to color in the picture with bright markers. Then place the top sheet back down to hide the colors.
  3. Pour a small amount of water into the plate—just enough to cover the bottom.
  4. Place the folded towel onto the plate and watch as the colors rise through the top layer, filling in your picture like magic.

Why We Love It:

  • Encourages creativity with endless picture ideas.
  • Combines art and science for a “wow” moment.
  • Teaches kids about water absorption in a fun way.
  • Quick setup and easy cleanup.
