Christmas Salt Painting

Bring Christmas shapes to life as the colours spread across the salty glue lines.

You’ll Need:

  • White glue
  • Table salt
  • White cardstock
  • Watercolours or food colouring
  • Paintbrush
  • Pencil (optional for sketching the design)

Let’s Make it:

  1. Prepare your food colouring or water paints, then draw a simple Christmas shape on cardstock—like a snowman, tree, candy cane, star, etc.
  2. Trace the drawing with white glue and add a generous layer of salt on top, then tip the paper to let the extra fall away.
  3. Lightly tap the salty lines with your paintbrush and watch the colours travel and bring the picture to life.

Why We Love It:

  • It creates a little moment of wonder as the colours travel all by themselves.
  • Helps your kid explore colour mixing in a hands-on, playful way.
  • The process is slow and calming, making it a great quiet-time craft after busy holiday activities.
