DIY Leafy Hedgehog

Who says hedgehogs only live in gardens? With a few autumn leaves, your little one can bring this spiky, full-of-fall-charm creature to life.

You’ll Need:

  • White paper
  • Black marker or crayon
  • Fresh or dried autumn leaves (variety of sizes and colors)
  • Glue stick or liquid glue

Let’s Make it:

  1. On a white sheet of paper, draw a simple hedgehog outline — just the face, nose, and little feet at the bottom. Leave the back blank for adding leaves.
  2. Collect autumn leaves of different shapes, colors and sizes. Flat leaves work best.
  3. Glue the leaves onto the hedgehog’s back, overlapping them so they look like spines. Keep layering until the hedgehog has a full, leafy back.
  4. Let it dry and your homemade hedgehog is ready.

Why We Love It:

  • Encourages kids to draw and create from scratch.
  • Brings nature into craft time and sparks conversations about seasons.
  • A perfect way to combine outdoor leaf collecting with indoor art.
