Recycled Octopus Craft

Meet your new underwater friend. A fun craft that teaches little ones about sea creatures and the importance of recycling.

You’ll Need:

  • 1 small plastic bottle
  • Blue foam sheet or colored paper
  • Googly eyes
  • Black marker
  • Scissors
  • Glue or tape

Let’s Make it:

  1. Cut off the bottom of the plastic bottle. Then, cut slits halfway up from the open edge to create eight strips — these will become the octopus’s arms. Gently bend each strip outward.
  2. Cut small blue foam circles and glue them along the arms to make suction cups.
  3. Stick on googly eyes near the top of the bottle and draw a happy smile with a marker.

Did You Know?

  • Octopuses have three hearts — two pump blood to the gills and one to the rest of the body.
  • They’re amazing escape artists and can squeeze through tiny spaces because they have no bones.
  • An octopus can change its color and texture to blend in with rocks and coral.
  • They’re super smart — scientists say octopuses can navigate mazes, unscrew jars, open latches and even figure out other tricky tasks.

Why We Love It:

  • Encourages creative thinking and fine motor skills.
  • Teaches kids about recycling and caring for our oceans.
  • Inspires imaginative underwater adventures and storytelling.
  • Quick, mess-free and made from materials you already have at home.
