Handprint Autumn Tree

Celebrate the beauty of autumn with this colorful handprint tree while learning about the changing seasons.

You’ll Need:

  • White paper
  • Washable paint in fall colors (red, yellow, orange, brown, green)
  • Paintbrushes or sponges
  • Optional: real fall leaves or yarn scraps for extra texture
  • Optional: glue stick

Let’s Make them:

  1. Paint your child’s hand with brown paint and press it onto the paper to create the tree’s branches. Then draw or paint the trunk extending down to the bottom of the page. Let it dry.

→ For the first picture, bundle a few Q-tips with a hair tie, dip them into paint and dot around the branches to create colorful autumn leaves. Use a fresh bundle for each color and keep dotting until the tree is full and vibrant. For a complete autumn look add fallen leaves around the base.

→ For the second picture dip your child’s hand in paint (or brush it on) and press around the branches to create leaves using different colors for each handprint to make the tree vibrant and full.

→ For the third picture let your little one dip a fingertip into paint and press around the branches to make clusters of leaves. Wipe clean between colors, then keep dotting until the tree crown is bursting with red, orange, yellow, and green.

→ For the fourth picture cut yarn into small pieces or short strips in autumn colors. Spread glue around the top of the tree and press yarn pieces onto the branches to create a fluffy, colorful canopy. Add a few yarn pieces at the bottom to look like fallen leaves.

→ For the fifth picture head outside with your little one to collect colorful autumn leaves. Glue them above the handprint to form a bright canopy, then add a few at the bottom to look like fallen leaves on the ground.
